Dr. Priyadarshini Karve selected for ABVP's Yuva Puraskar- 2002
Dr. Priyadarshini Karve from Pune (Maharashtra) is the winner of this year's "Prof. Yashwantrao Kelkar Yuva Puraskar - 2002".
Prof. Yashwantrao Kelkar Youth Award has been instituted in 1991 to commemorate the inspiring of the towering personality of Prof. Kelkar, who gave a new direction to the student movement of India being the architect of ABVP. It is joint endeavor of ABVP & VIDYARTHI NIDHITRUST. The objective is to encourage efforts of young social workers in various fields of public service, bring them to limelight and express gratitude towards them on behalf of the entire youth community.
The theme of the award is "Commercial Application of Non-conventional Energy". The winner Dr. Priyadarshini Karve has developed a chain of technologies for converting waste into a clean fuel and using that fuel for domestic cooking. This technology has a tremendous potential for income generation in rural areas, solving the domestic energy problems of the urban poor and saving foreign exchange of the country. Dr. Priyadarshini Karve is lecturer im Smt. Kashibai Navale College and Appropriate Institute of Technology, Pune.
The award, which consist of Rs. 10,000/-, a memento and certificate presented to Dr. Priyadarshini Karve at a special function on 27th Dec. 2002 in the 48th National Conference of ABVP held at Calicut (Kerala).
