Opposing the entrance regulations and fee structure of Professional courses, ABVP has staged an effective pretest. Suicide of three students, Pratibha, Mamata and Shashijkumar owing to the crisis in professional education's fee structure, left the state under shock. ABVP called for a state wide protest against the seat sharing and fees hike in the professional courses, for 7 times, on July 17th, 18th, 21st, 27th, 30th and 5th, 11th August. But the government has failed to keep up its promise to safe-guard the interests of poor talented students. At Bangalore, Pratibha, the daughter of an Auto driver, committed suicide since her father was unable to bear the hasty fees for professional course.
Similarly, Mamatha of Harihar has surrendered to death Demanding the fee structure of government colleges to be implemented for the poor middle class talented students (50% seats of Govt. quota in private colleges) demonstrations were staged throughout the state. The govt. gave the statement saying, it will not take any action until the Supreme Court gives its decision. In spite of the opposition by the students and parents the counseling is being carried out. This shows the anti-student attitude of the govt as the next step of the protest, ABVP is demanding the govt to resolve the issue by holding talks with the private managements. After the courts verdict. In this regard ABVP Karnataka has decided to besiege the ministers throughout the state and continue the protest at Bangalore.
|
The Government has yielded to ABVP's protests and has given a fee structure favorable to 30% of the students. But remaining 70% of the students are still under the burden of huge fees. In this regard ABVP has decided to continue the protest.

CET Crisis -Govt's Role: Round table conference
 |
What is the solution for the CET crisis? what is the present situation of professional courses? Admission process of Comed K and Existence of CET System. What is the government's responsibility? What it should have done? Problems being faced by the students and parents. These were the issues that will be taken up in the symposium being organised at FKCCI auditorium, Bangalore. The symposium will be attended by educationalists, intellectuals and parents. The meeting will be presided over by retired justice Mr.M.F. Saldana. He has expressed his opinion as follows:
|
1. CET and COMED K had to adopt transparency in the entrance tests and admission procedures. There should be no room for misappropriations. Including the Judges every one has to realize the importance of time and give decisions and suggestions based on the realities of the situation.
Mr.Suvrut Kumar, who spoke on behalf of ABVP suggested that for immediate resolution of this problem, sum of Rs.65 cores has to be kept aside from the budget this year. He said, a law has to be framed in the parliament for the long-term solution.
Mr. Ashok Harnalli, a lawyer said that when the govt. had decided to follow 75 : 25 ratio for seat sharing there was no necessity to go to the court again. This wrong step taken by the Govt. has caused immense damage to the students and parents.
Prof: P.V. Krishna Bhat, Director IGNCA said that the private colleges have already sold their seats for huge amounts of money and hence COMED K is desperately bringing in disputes in Seat sharing. He suggested that there should be an independent body which will decide the fee structure for the college based on per-student expenses. Literary personalities, S.Shi Marulaiah and Dr. H.S. Parvati expressed their opinion as the govt. should realize its Social responsibilities and see to it that justice is made to students. Dr. Rajshekharaiah Retired Vice Chancellor of Visveswaraiah College of Technical University, Arvind Limbavali, member of the State legislative council and Merit Student and Professional Course aspirant Udaya Ravi
expressed their opinions about the professional courses.
Dr. Ashwathnarayan, Dr. Vishnukanth, Prof. Nargund, MLA Mr.C.T.Ravi and MLA Mr.Raghupati Bhat participated as guests. ABVP State organizing Secretary Sri. N.Ravikumar gave the key note address. Dr. M.K. Sridhar moderated the meeting.
